At the Game Creators Conference held in Kansai, Japan. Nintendo representatives had announced that the Switch would be even open to indie developers, as the developer kits would only cost ¥50,000 (USD$500). What does this mean for an average consumer? Well just about everyone who is able to afford the cost of the kit would be able to develop for it, and in return benefiting the long term success of the console. As the fee to develop is low, and it is much more appealing.
This is compared to the 360/PS3 developer kits costing upwards of 10K. Becoming a registered Nintendo Developer is very easy to do as it’s a simple signup which you do need to sign a Nondisclosure Agreement for so don’t go signing up if you aren’t going to be developing anything.
