As a response to Microsoft’s flurry of acquisition in the recent years, Sony has bought Halo-creators Bungie for $3.6 billion.
According to the details shared of their deal by Sony, Bungie will remain a “independent subsidiary” of Sony Interactive Entertainment after the deal closes. They will be allowed to self-publish, and remain a multi-platform studio which is definitely surprising especially with what we’ve seen of recent acquisitions.
Bungie will continue to maintain Destiny 2, and work on expanding the franchise while working on a new IP which is scheduled to release by 2025. This is presumably alongside the reported class shooter they had been tasked to create by NetEase.
