So who remembers 2012? If you don’t let me remind you. 2012 was one of the best years in gaming that I recently remember. The year was full of critically acclaimed games and consoles. Consoles like the 3DS XL, PS Vita and Wii U were released. A huge array of games came out as well some truly remarkable ones like Borderlands 2, Farcry 3, Mass Effect 3, Dishonered and the first game of the long running series Telltale’s The Walking Dead. Now I mean those are just the amazing ones there was still other great games like Hitman Absolution and PlanetSide 2, Halo 4 and Retro City Rampage.
Do you get the point though? 2012 was seriously packed with amazing titles and every year since then has sort of been a step down. Sure outliers like GTA V came out in 2013 but for the most part its been a step down every year. Buggy games on launch like BF4, Steam Early Access being abused, disappointments like Alien Colonial Marines and lacklustre next gen console launches plagued the coming years.
Early 2015 was not a bad time, just not a very exciting time. The new consoles had just rolled out and because of their novelty there wasn’t a lot of games, unless you’re counting HD remakes. Now that the dust has settled we’re beginning to see much more interesting things. Because of events like Gamescom and E3 this year, late 2015 – 2016 look amazing.
We’re talking games, some that we’ve been dying to see forever. Games like Fallout 4, Halo 5, and Starwars Battlefront are coming out just before the new year. In 2016 we’re gonna see Mirror’s Edge Catalyst, The Division, Street Fighter V and the spiritual successor to Banjo Kazooie, Yooka – Laylee. We can also expect other releases like Gears of War 4, No Man’s Sky, Doom, Deus Ex, Dark Souls III, Ratchet and Clank, The last Guardian, Uncharted 4, Quantum Break, Legend of Zelda and Overkill’s the Walking Dead to release sometime 2016. That’s only a fraction of the games coming 2016.
Even if you take games out the picture there is still amazing tech releasing. Tech like the Oculus Rift, HTC Vive and other VR products. We’re also getting Steam link and the Steam controller.
I’m very excited for the end of 2015 and the start of 2016, there’s going a whole ton of things to check out and hopefully the years after are not a disappointment. Tell us what you’re excited for in the comment section below.
