AI Mashup Mods have taken over social media this week

No that’s not a photoshop, that’/s one of many mash up games that have popped up on social media last week.

Social media has been full of games that are not supposed to share a screen. Minecraft blocks in Skyrim. Skate physics on a Modern Warfare 2 map. Tarkov guns in a Bethesda province. Spider-Man in Gotham. The clips moved faster than the downloads.

A lot of them were built with Claude, not a weekend in the Creation Kit. Modder chasm put one of the few you can actually install on GitHub: SkyCraft, Minecraft systems inside Skyrim, with a multiplayer build he said supports up to 100 players.

What is real, and what is a clip

Not every video is the same trick. SkyCraft and a Minecraft-in-GTA build are the ones with public code and a paper trail pointing at Claude. The Minecraft-in-Elden Ring clip that did the biggest numbers is a different story. Coverage out of Japan noted the maker said it is not two games running at once, and it was not handed out.

Kotaku installed the Skyrim Minecraft mod and got about as far as two blocks before the mountain opened and the player fell through. Missing textures, bad hitboxes, geometry that does not know it is Skyrim anymore. The feed does not show that part.

A third layer showed up by October 4: an app called Melty promising one-click mashups. People who had already played SkyCraft pointed out the announcement was stitching together clips that already existed.

Modders are not celebrating

The internet is split. One side says assistants just opened mods for games that never had a scene. The other says the people posting these are not modders, and the hobby is turning into a factory for clips.

Kotaku’s headline was the polite version: stop putting games inside other games with AI. Spanish outlet Vandal quoted modders who do not want the work turned into a garbage line. The loudest complaints are not only from people who hate the tools. Some of them use the same assistants and still think a 40-second fusion is not a mod.

Classic mods took months because the game had to be read. These took hours because a model read the decompile and wrote the glue. That is why Rust, Skate, and Minecraft showed up in the same CoD week. It is also why half of them fall apart the moment you walk forward.

Why Social Media looks like this

A mashup is a perfect post. Two logos, one impossible verb, a video that loops. You do not need to finish the level. You need the Fire Giant and a Minecraft sword in the same frame.

The playable part is thinner. SkyCraft is out. A lot of the rest is a demo on somebody’s machine, or a rewrite that is not the retail game at all. One poster put it cleanly: some of these are not mods. They are mutant builds, full rewrites of two games stapled together.

If you only watch scroll social media, it looks like every PC game just became a Lego set. If you try to install one, it still looks like modding: Discord, a GitHub release, and a mountain you can fall through.
