Onward Suffers Major Downgrade After Quest Release

After the release of the Oculus Quest version of Onward, PCVR users have logged in to find out their version of the games had been downgraded to match the Quest graphics.

Users also flocked to their discord unhappy that their, changes to the game were pushed onto Onward PC. As a result of the port, Onward included some major map changes to get the game running on the Quest. Prior to the update Downpour Interactive had told players the changes would mostly be in the form of changing the layout, and removing small features the Quest couldn’t have such as more foliage.

This video from UploadVR highlights the major changes on just one of the maps in Onward.

If you’re looking at any positives from this update the game going to run better, and the Community Manager for Downpour does claim that this new system will allow them to push out more robust, and feature rich updates.

“We rewrote and rebuilt large parts of the game over the past months,” says KasperVid on Discord. “On the one hand we’ve created tons of headroom for future improvements and expansions to the game, on the other there is the temporary pain we’re experiencing right now. And I completely understand it’s frustrating. But we’ve been working on this game for many years, and we’re dedicated to it. That won’t change, so please give us that little bit of credit that we’ll make it right, soon.”

They also explained that they are taking feedback and will try their best to get the issues they hear about resolved asap. We reached out to Downpour to get further comment, and will let you know once we here back from them.
